THE phone lines have been ringing and the e-mail inbox pregnant with queries. For the eager beavers – teachers and students alike – who have been calling and e-mailing to enquire, your long wait is over.
To answer your questions: Yes, RHB-The Star Mighty Minds Challenge 2010 is on. And yes, registration is now open. But to only one team per category per school. So act fast!
The exciting contest, which ran for the first time last year, received enthusiastic response from over 6,000 students who were bowled over by the contest mechanics that demanded superior thinking skills while giving free rein to their creativity.
So if you’re labelled a “know-it-all,” “Mr Encyclopaedia” or “little Einstein”, here’s your chance to pit brains with your counterparts from around the nation.
Open to all Malaysian secondary students in teams of three, the challenge is divided into two categories – lower secondary and upper secondary.
The state challenge will follow this format:
·60 teams to vie for the top 15 spots in the general knowledge, science and maths multiple choice question (MCQ) quiz;
·15 top teams then construct a model using Science principles, with only five teams moving on;
·top five teams to present their models on stage; and
·the same top five teams to take part in a buzzer quiz.
Last year, the state challenge had only two elements: the MCQ quiz and the hands-on challenge. This stepped-up format came about after the electrifying four-stage national finals last year which elicited enthusiastic comments from Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minsister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who was the VIP at the event.
The state challenges kick off in Malacca on April 24 and continue right through to September. The 14 state champion teams from each category will then head to the Klang Valley in October for the three-day two-night national challenge.
If having the right to stake claim to your mental might is not reason enough to sign up, the prizes will be! State champs win RM3,000 per team (RM2,000 in kind for their school), while the first and second runners-up will receive RM2,000 and RM1,000 each (RM1,000 and RM750 in kind per school respectively). Prizes will also be awarded to the fourth- and fifth-placed teams.
For an added edge, subscribe to F123 and F4F5, The Star’s Science and Math guides published fortnightly which will contain invaluable tips.

Lawatan ke Sungai Klah, Sungkai
Jahat - Stacy
Aku sudah serik bercinta
Kerna asyik berakhir dengan kecewa
Tapi sejak hadirnya dia
Semua sistem kawalan kini terdedah
Kepala kata jangan gelojoh (no)
Hati pula kata pergi (go baby go)
Benarkah cinta itu buta
Kerna tak nampak apa selain dia
Chorus
Aku aku
Bagaikan sudah terkena mantera cinta
Dari manakah kau datang menyerang
Diriku diriku
Yang disangka kebal
Oh jahatnya kamu
Jahatnya kamu
Engkau engkau
Penyebab diriku terigau-igau
Kini ku terbayangkanmu hampir setiap waktu
Ku mahu ku mahu denganmu selalu
Oh jahatnya kamu
Jahatnya kamu
Apa agaknya sudah jadi
Pada ingkar untuk tak bercinta lagi
Walaupun belum bersedia
Tapi hatiku mendesak dan menggesa
Ulang Chorus 2X
Jahatnya kamu
Jahatnya kamu
